For secure vehicle entrances, safety and security are closely connected, but they are not the same. An automated security gate must control access effectively while also operating safely around vehicles and people.
Within Bavak’s U.S. Speedgate range, the B-Trackless and B-Protect are UL 325 certified. This certification addresses the safe operation of automated gate systems and is an important consideration when selecting a powered gate for controlled vehicle access.
UL 325 is a U.S. safety standard for automated gate operators and systems. It includes requirements related to safe operation and protection against entrapment hazards.
For security managers, engineers and facility operators, this means that UL 325 should be considered as part of the overall design of an automated vehicle entrance.
Bavak Speedgates combine this operational safety with fast opening and closing, controlled vehicle access and integration with access control and other security systems.
UL 325 certification does not define how resistant a gate is to forced entry or vehicle impact.
These are different security requirements and should be assessed separately.
A secure vehicle entrance can involve several layers:
The required combination depends on the location, threat assessment and operational requirements.
Where increased resistance against forced entry is required, Bavak offers additional security configurations.
The B-Protect Speedgate is available in configurations classified according to EN 1627, including RC2, RC3 and RC4 resistance classes. These classifications relate specifically to resistance against forced-entry attempts and should not be confused with UL 325 certification.
This makes it possible to select a Speedgate configuration that reflects both the operational requirements of the entrance and the required level of physical security.
Vehicle-impact protection is another distinct security requirement.
Standards such as ASTM F2656/F2656M are used to test vehicle security barriers under defined vehicle-impact conditions. UL 325 certification should therefore not be interpreted as a crash rating.
Where a threat assessment identifies a requirement to stop a hostile or unauthorized vehicle, a Speedgate can be combined with appropriately tested vehicle-security barriers such as bollards or road blockers.
This layered approach allows access control, operational safety and vehicle-impact protection to be addressed independently while functioning as one integrated vehicle entrance.
The appropriate security solution is not determined by a single certification.
Traffic volume, opening frequency, required security level, available space, access control, safety requirements and the vehicle threat should all be considered when designing the entrance.
Bavak USA therefore approaches the vehicle entrance as an integrated security environment. Speedgates, access control, vehicle inspection and additional perimeter protection can be combined according to the requirements of the site.
This helps ensure that each component has a clearly defined role within the overall security concept.
The B-Trackless and B-Protect are the UL 325-certified models within Bavak’s current U.S. Speedgate range. The appropriate Speedgate should be selected based on the required security level, traffic flow, installation conditions and additional protection requirements.
